If it isn't abundantly clear by the total lack of updates for quite some time, I have cycled through my interests several times and I'm back to guitar. I ordered a Carvin DC400 last week and I should be getting it tomorrow. Within a week, I will certainly have some pictures with the possibility of some recordings.

Click here to download the mpeg videoDespite my increasing enthusiasm for 3d modelling, I have little done this weekend. I have been bogged down by real life responsibilities (don't you hate those?) and didn't even finish the drawings for my character. I have, however, made several particle animations. Out of them, I only have one that I'd like to share with the rest of the internet. Please excuse the poor lighting, I didn't realize how bad it was until after the 2 hour render. In addition, after looking at it after the long render, I noticed I overcompensated the bounciness (which is usually WAY too high for water splash) and it doesn't splash like it should at that velocity and altitude. Oh well, at least I know where I went wrong. On a positive note, my initial reaction to the watermark was a bit exaggerated and I've gotten to the point where I hardly notice it. Did I mention that maya ROCKS? I wish I knew about maya earlier while I was still toying around with povray, and later, blender. Anyway, to close this entry, I would like to just say that my character won't be finished this weekend, and probably only have a decent start next weekend.
Maya personal learning edition has finally been released (about time!). Overall, I'm impressed by the completeness of the package, considering its cost. However, the one thing that I didn't think would bother me IS bothering me: the watermark. My first impression was that it was way too invasive. I had a hunch that it would be this way, but not to this extreme! The watermark in the editor also seems to significantly slow down the interface. Oh well, I guess the old saying "beggars can't be chosers" holds very true in this situation. Back on topic: I probably won't have time to work on my character this week, but this coming weekend should allow me some time to finish some more complete sketches and get a decent start on the character.
There's not much exciting happening right now as I don't have the time to invest in a good looking, uber-modern site design. What you can expect to find here are crude sketches that will later be modelled in Maya Personal Learning Edition as soon as it is released (which I suspect to be soon). Here are the crude sketches of characters I plan to model and animate:
This is supposed to be a witch-like character, possibly a demon character. I will draw some orthographic views later for the 3d modelling process. I plan to make this character as a single, seamless NURBS surface. Ignore the crooked nose. Because I'm mirroring half of the drawing the crookedness won't make it into the final model.
This will be my first head model.
